Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center

If you live in Anchorage and you’ve never been to the Wildlife Conservation Center, why not?? It’s such a cool place! I love their mission and values. They are a sanctuary “dedicated to preserving Alaska’s wildlife through conservation, education, research and quality animal care.” (I was going to write something amazing, but their website said it pretty darn well!) They rescue animals that can no longer survive in the wild and give them a pretty sweet life. Back in 2015, they also released 150 wood bison their population in Central Alaska. I just think it’s an amazing place with an awesome mission. So when my friend Ryan asked if I wanted to go this past Saturday to see the bears being fed some vegetables, I thought, why not??

What I didn’t know about this particular feeding is that the bears are fed with all the prize winning vegetables from the Alaska State Fair that ended the weekend before. Apparently this happens every year the Saturday after the fair ends. Who knew?? It was such a fun experience and I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone happier to see a pumpkin than those bears were!

This was a fun little Saturday field trip and I hope I get to go back next year and maybe get a better spot closer to the bears! If you’re interested in reading more about the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, read more about them here.
